The lenght of your song should be between 2-5 minutes
The song should be published after the 01.01.2010
The song shouldn’t be too famous (general guideline is the 100 million views mark on YouTube and the chart performance on Wikipedia)
Studio versions only, live performances only if there is no other way
Remixes of famous songs are not allowed
Songs from the Eurovision Song Contest, Junior Eurovision Song Contest or previous The Star editions are not allowed to compete, songs from National Finals are also not allowed to enter the competition
“Troll songs”, meaning songs which are intended to be bad, are forbidden to enter the competition
Artist Rules
The artist has to have a strong connection to the country, artists with multiple citizenships are flexible (strong connection means: citizenship, living in this country for multiple years, being married to a native or born to native parents) – In a Duo one of the artists has to fulfil this rule, in a band at least one third of the members
Internationally known singers are not allowed to compete
The artist should be at least 16 years old when the song got released
Voting Rules
You are not allowed to vote for yourself
You are not allowed to vote for one country multiple times in one voting
The voting will only be counted if you submit it during the voting period
The voting form has to be clear and easily readable (Latin letters, English language and country names), if you fail to do so, your votes won’t be accepted
You have to fill a whole top 10 (might be different depending on how many entries get submitted)
You are not allowed to spoil your full voting before the results get revealed, you may give hints
If you don’t vote, you will get minus points added to your final result and you will loose your claimed country, however you are not banned from participating in the next edition
If the winner of a edition didn’t vote in time his victory will be passed to the runner up
